My top 20 movie list
1. Star Wars
It's hard for anyone that wasn't there in 1977 to understand this. The movie had so many elements that had never before appeared on the big screen.
The space ships and space. Before Star Wars, movies tried to show these shots as little as possible. They were often very fake looking. Things like the Death Star had never even been attempted, at least not in that detail. Every movie after this had to step up and do as good a job or better. Thanks George!
Lightsabers. Who even thought of fighting with something like this before this movie. Okay, so maybe it was thought of, just never done.
Lasers, blasters. Movies before this had really cheap laser effects. Almost always white, and looked more like smudges than laser fire.
Aliens, aliens, aliens. No one had ever seen so many aliens in one movie before this. If there were aliens they looked like any fake mask you could buy in a store.
Droids. After Star Wars, other movies could no longer portray robots as actors wearing foam suits, and cardboard boxes.
Plot. This movie isn't secretly about the rain forest, or the depleting ozone layer. It's about good verses evil. plain and simple.
2. Lord of the Rings trilogy (Peter Jackson's version).
Has anyone ever done more in depth, realistic, and gripping version of JRR Tolkien's story? I think not.
3. Highlander
Origenal concept, immortals living among us, fighting to be the last. They weren't vampires, werewolves, zombies, just immortal. The cut scenes have never been done better, never.
